Construction of Cultuurhuis de Klinker in Winschoten completed

April 23th, 2015

The construction of the new cultural centre in Winschoten is completed and the first performance took place in the theatre on the 5th of March.

On the same site where the former theatre De Klinker was built, we now find a new cultural building whith a theatre and also a library, the Centre for the Arts and studios for the local radio station. The theatre has a large auditorium with 650 seats and a studio theatre with 170 seats destined for smaller performances and films.

The large auditorium is the first proscenium theatre in the Netherlands that has done away with the usual proscenium bridge and tormentors. Instead, the fly tower extends into the auditorium side of the proscenium above the orchestra pit providing the necessary height for fly bars with an offset of 20cm. This set-up gives a greater flexibility and brings the audience closer to the actors.

Different types of performances will take place in the coming months and the official opening of the theatre is planned for September.
