Theater de Vest in Alkmaar reopened!
January 6th, 2014
The partially revitalized Theater De Vest in Alkmaar opened in October 2013. The auditorium has been expanded from just under 600 seats to almost 700 seats. The old hall shape that was a design copy of architect Walter Gropius is mostly retained. The wide shape and the ability to bring almost the whole orchestra inside the auditorium at stage level have come back into the new design. This requires both an orchestra - as well auditorium elevator.
On stage a column is removed to provide more space for loading and unloading and changements. Because Theater De Vest did not meet the health and safety legislation for loading and unloading, it was necessary to design an expedition elevator. The freight elevator is able to move the goods vertically and is also able to be established as a ramp position between the stage floor and the trailer. Through this ramp goods can be rolled-on or rolled-off from the trailer and the stage. The theatre has outside the renovation of the auditorium and the stage also undergo a remodeling of the offices and the foyer.
In close collaboration with the architect and the user the auditorium shape and theater technical components were designed. The new auditorium chairs, the three elevatrors and other technical theater components are described, tendered, supervised and delivered by Theateradvies.
The designteam also consisted Architects TenBras&Westinga, WHR for the electrical and mechanical installations, IMD for the constructions, Level Acoustics for acoustics, and BBN for project management.
