THE HAGUE’S HOUSE FOR CULTURE, EDUCATION, EVENTS AND ENCOUNTERS

Amare is the largest cultural complex in the Netherlands. The new home

for the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), Residentie Orkest and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, it is also inviting to the public with transparent base and spacious passageways. Students, professionals and public co-exist in one building and makes this perfect for spontaneous interactions between the groups.

Amare (“love” and “at sea” [A mare] in latin) is a stage of, for and by the city and includes: A theatre space (1.274 seats), a concert hall (1.500 seats or 2.500 visitors standing), an ensemble hall (600 flexible seats), five rehearsal spaces for the Nederlands Dans Theater, studio’s for the Royal Conservatory (music and dance). The dance theatre is the new principal performing space for the Nederlands Dans Theater and is also used for a widely varied programme of drama, opera, ballet and musical.

The concert hall has variable acoustics and is suited for both symphonic music and pop concerts. It has custom designed stage machinery which is unique and versatile to accommodate a number of configurations. The ensemble hall is used for presentations by students of the Royal Conservatory including ballet and music. The tension grid and flexible seating are versatile and optimal for educational purposes. Every auditorium has a recognizable identity from within the building through its distinct finish and matching foyer space. Besides the performances and concerts, Amare also has an important event and conference function.

Amare has been awarded a BREEAM Excellent certificate from the Dutch Green Building Council.
